An Introduction to Undergraduate Program

Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT) is authorized to confer degrees in the following 8 first-level discipline categories: engineering, science, management, literature, law, economics, education, and art, which cover 57 undergraduate programs. With disciplines in civil engineering and architecture being the characteristic, with the engineering programs accounting for the principle part, XAUAT has established a well-coordinated multi-disciplinary undergraduate educational system which integrates literature, science, economics, management, art and law. Among its undergraduate majors, 9 have been labeled as the National Well-Established Specialties, 12, provincial Well-Established Specialties among the universities in Shaanxi Province, 7 have excelled in the education evaluation conducted by the National Evaluation Committee of Specialties in Higher-learning Institutions. With its well-defined specialties and the eminent characteristics, the discipline framework in XAUAT lays a solid foundation for the quality education and sustainable development of the undergraduate students. XAUAT was graded “Excellent” in the national evaluation of the undergraduate education by the Ministry of Education in 2006.

Following the undergraduate education guideline of “scientific in development, steady in construction, flexible in talent-training, and laying emphasis on practice, characteristic and quality” the leadership and the faculty have been making unremitted efforts in optimizing the undergraduate student training scheme, boosting quality education, and intensify practice and implementation. As one of the experimental units in education reform of absolute credit, XAUAT strives to enrich the high-quality program resources, open minors in various discplines, and cultivate the students' personality and initiative in learning. As a reward for its renewed effort in encouraging the students to start businesses or enter for competitions at different levels, XAUAT is ratified by the Ministry of Education to be one of the Experimental Zone in Talent Training Mode Innovation. And in 2010 it was authorized by Ministry of Education to be one of the first 61 universities to implement the national program of "The Training Program of Outstanding Engineers ".

With much priority given to the quality education and process management, XAUAT has created a favorable condition for all-round sustainable development of the student. The quality control and management system implemented in undergraduate education received in 2009 the second prize in the Sixth State Award for Teaching Achievement. There are 2 National Experimental Teaching Centers, and 3 National Teaching Teams, 6 national Excellent Courses, 1 national bilingual demonstration course, 2 Innovation Experimental Zone of Innovation in Talent Training Mode, all of which facilitate and advance the undergraduate education, and maintain the prominent status of XAUAT among its ranks.
