General Information About Xi'an City

　　Xi'an , or Chang'an as it was called in ancient times, was one of the most important cradles of Chinese civilization. It marked the start of the famous "Silk Road" that linked China with central Asia and the Roman Empire. And it served as the first capital of a unified China and capital of 11 dynasties periodically from the 11th century B.C. to the early 10th century A.D.
　　 Through more than 50 years of development, Xi'an has constructed a multiple–industry system dominated by the following industries such as aviation ,aerospace, electronics, machinery, textile, and electric power. In recent years, Xi'an High-tech Industry Development Zone, covering a 35-sq km area and built up with technological advantages, has greatly strengthened the power for transformation of technological achievements and the economic development of Xi'an city. To talk about the comprehensive scientific and technological power, Xi'an maintains the third place right after Beijing and Shanghai of the big cities of China.
　　 With over 180 foreign-owned enterprises having set up their businesses in the city, Xi'an has established trade relations with more than 100 nations and regions around the world. As one of the 4 biggest airports in China, Xi'an Airport has opened up over 100 airlines to 50 cities at home and abroad.

　　 Xi'an enjoys a long history of international communications. Countless foreigners visited the city thousands years back. In addition, as early as one thousand years ago in the Tang Dynasty, the ambassadors from Japan, Europe, Korea and so many other nations set their feet in Xi'an city. Nowadays, the interest in Chinese language around the world has been increasing steadily, which attracts so many international students from every corner of the world to come to Xi'an to study Chinese.

Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology

　　Established in 1956, Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology is located in the historical city of Xi'an, with the world famous Wild Goose Pagoda to the south and the renowned City Wall of the Ming Dynasty to the earth .The garden-like campus occupies an area of 1,334,000m 2 , with 900,000m 2 floor area in total.
　　 The university also enjoys a distinctive academic flavor. The core field of the university is civil engineering and architecture and subjects of science, engineering, art, management, law, liberal arts are also available. The university has 15 schools and departments and provides 50 undergraduate majors. The member of faculty of the university is 2,500 including 2 academicians and 700 teachers, technicians and researchers with high professional titles. Currently, the total number of students is about 25,000. At present, the university offers 3 national high key subjects, and 16 key subjects at provincial level. In addition, the university has 4 mobile post-doctoral stations, 24 doctorate grant subjects (4 for first-level subjects and 20 for second-level subjects respectively) and 62 master degree grant subjects.
　　 Taking “well-known around the world, high-level at home” as its guiding principle, the university is concerned with the international academic exchange and scientific& technological cooperation. Since China's opening-up to the outside, the university has set up cooperative relationship with over 40 universities in America, Japan, Germany, Australia, Korea, etc., from which the university invites those with high academic quality to be its part-time teachers, with which the university overcomes those thorny problems in scientific field, and with which the university signs agreement for exchanging students. The wide-ranging extensive exchange and cooperation accelerates the pace of the university's internalization and contributes a lot to the development of the university.

Chinese Language Training Center

　　Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology is the one approved by the Ministry of Education to admit international students. Based on its undergraduate major of teaching Chinese as a foreign language the university established the Chinese Language Training Center whose main task is to teach or train international students in Chinese. What's more, the center also provides training courses for those who desire to take the career of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
　　 The staff of the training center are experienced in teaching and management. With its scientific and systematic teaching mode, the center offers short-term program, long-term program and intensive training courses for international students. The high teaching quality recognized by the overseas students guarantees their outstanding achievements in the test of HSK each year.

Study programs

Ⅰ . Long - term program
　　 It starts in late February and late August each year, with the minimum study period set as half a year(one academic semester). It's open for application at any time. After admission, the students will take a Chinese test, by which we will divide the students into different classes from beginning, junior, middle and senior levels.

Ⅱ . Short - term program
　　 The duration of the short- term study program is less than half a year. According to the special needs of learners, the class for Chinese language and the class for Chinese culture will be available.

Ⅲ . Intensive training program
　　 For those who want to take the China National Chinese Language Proficiency Test (HSK), we'll provide the intensive training.

Teaching schedules
Ⅰ . Course arrangements
　　 The Chinese Language Training Center will provide Primary, Intermediate and Advanced Chinese in accordance with the students' Chinese language levels. Courses include listening, speaking, reading and writing. In addition, elective courses (Chinese Literature, Chinese History, Chinese calligraphy and Taiji Boxing, etc.) will be offered based on the students' demands and the number of the students.
Ⅱ . Social and extra-curricular activities
　　 Each semester, the center will make arrangements for our students to visit places of historical interest and scenic beauty. Besides, with the coming of the new year, a party will be held each year. Students an also take part in the activities organized by the university and our training center will award the winner.

Note:
　　 This is for short-term study program. To make the students have a better understanding of the Chinese culture and the economic development of China, our center will arrange students to visit the places of interest, factories, countryside and schools within Shaanxi Province

Application qualifications and procedures

Ⅰ . Anyone, healthy, aged between 16 and 60, interested in Chinese language and Chinese culture, abiding by Chinese laws, regulations and the rules of Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, and respecting the traditions and customs of Chinese people, can apply.
Ⅱ . Applicants should mail the following documents to our university:
　　1. Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology Application Form for Foreign Students.
　　2. one copy of the applicant's valid certificate. (the copy of the passport, for instance)
　　3.Within one month after the day on which it receives the application and relevant materials, the Admission Office will send to qualified applicants a letter of acceptance and Form JW202 for visa application in the Chinese embassy or consulate in their country. Students must enroll within the time period stipulated in the notice of admission. Participants in the programs of no more than six months' duration are expected to come to China with a X-status or a F-status visa.
　　4. Applicants who can't come to our university with X-status visa due to time or other reasons, can come with L-status visa as well. However, applicants must inform the Office of International Students Services or the Chinese Language Training Center in advance by e-mail ,fax or phone. Therefore, our training can handle the alternation of visa upon your arrival.
　　 5.Our training center also accepts the application of transfer students. For this, the center will manage the formalities of your transferring and the change your address.
　　 6. Applicants can take physical exam in the public hospitals where they are located. When coming to China, applicants must take the original Records of Physical Examination For Foreigners, the original blood test report and the electrocardiogram and have them verified by the Shaanxi Public Health and Quarantine Bureau. They can also take the physical exam by Shaanxi Public Health and Quarantine Bureau and get it verified by the bureau. Then our center will handle the procedure for foreign residence.

　　1. All fees should be paid in RMB within 2 weeks after the student's arrival, or they can not get registered.
　　 2.The training center will refund some tuition fees according to the relevant regulations to the student who drop out of school.
　　 3. All international students must buy the health insurance.

Notes:
　　 1.Featured by its convenience, good sanitation and safety, the International Student's Dormitory, approved by the lodge foreign students, is in the living area of the university.
　　 2.The deposit should be paid when international students get registered and it will be refunded when they finish their study.
　　 3.There are hospitals, stores and banks near the university. A multipurpose stadium is on campus and the newly-built gymnasium is equipped with various sports facilities and is charged with a regulated fee.
　　 4.The university lies in the South Suburb of Xi'an city. With a convenient transportation, it only takes 20 minutes to go the railway by bus, station, and there is also an expressway leading to the Xi'an airport.
