Introduction to the Board of Trustees

Approved by the former Ministry of Metallurgy, the Board of Trustees at Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT) was founded in 1997, in order to construct the reasonably prosperous society and bring about a great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, to give the university fresh vitality and impetus. The Board of Trustees, comprising government officials, enterprises and public institutions, alumni, and representatives of XAUAT, based on the principle of "equal negotiations, mutual benefit, and mutual support for further development", functions as a bridge between the board members and the university. It acts as an institution that offers consultation and assessment of the major issues in the development of the university, and therefore, is a significant form of organization in the reforming and development of XAUAT.

In the 4^th plenary session of the first committee held at Jiayuguan city, Gansu Province, on the 24^th of September, 2002, over 60 delegates, including 27 from the member units of the board, and delegates leaders from the alumni associations across the country, elected and endorsed the new leadership of XAUAT Board of Trustees. The elected leadership included Wu Jianchang (secretary of the Party Committee in the National Association of the Iron and Steel Industry), Gui Zhongyue (Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress in Shaanxi Province), and Chen Zongxing (Deputy Governor of Shaanxi Province) being the chairman of the board. Speeches were delivered by Gao Mingzhang, Deputy Chairperson of the board and Secretary of the Party Committee at XAUAT, and by the newly-elected chairpersons Wu Jianchang and Gui Zhongyue. The delegates fully recognized the achievement made so far in the development approaches, university objective, and the construction of the campus culture. More directors, directing units of the board were appointed; they are Wuhan Group Corporation of Iron and Steel, whose Deputy General Manager Li Fushan was appointed to be the Deputy Chairman of the board, and Jinhui Company in Shanxi Province, whose General Manager, Wang Baotong ,was appointed Managing Director.

The 1^stplenary session of the second Committee of Board Members and Alumni was convened on 29^th of September, 2005. Guo Yongping (memmber of the CCP Standing Committee of Shanxi Provincce), Wu Jianchang (former secretary of the party committee in the National Association of the Iron and Steel Industry, and Gui Zhongyue (vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress in Shaanxi Province), addressed the meeting, respectively on behalf of the CCP Committee of Shanxi Provincce, the National People's Congress of Shaanxi Province, and Shaanxi Provincial Commission of Education.

Xu Delong, president of XAUAT, reported to the session. The delegates appreciated the role the board had played, inquired into the development, the orientation and the objective of the university, canvassed on how they can give full scope to the potential of the board, addressed the preparatory work concerning the 50^th anniversary of the XAUAT, and the recruitment of new board members. The session deliberated and adopted the “Statute of XAUAT Board of Trustees” and the “Statute of XAUAT Foundation of Education”.

The 2^nd plenary session of the second committee, on 22^nd of September, 2006, was chaired by Gui Zhongyue, chairman of XAUAT Board of Trustees and vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress in Shaanxi Province. On behalf of the Board, Xu Delong, president of XAUAT, delivered a speech on the upcoming anniversary of the university, the undergraduate teaching evaluation, and the programming and the prospect of the development. Wu Jianchang, chairman of XAUAT Board of Trustees and secretary of the Party committee in the National Association of the Iron and Steel Industry, highly appreciated what the university had accomplished over the years and expressed his good wishes regarding the university anniversary and undergraduate teaching evaluation.

The 3^rd plenary session of the second committee fell on 17^th of December, 2009. Present in this session were Zhou Yibo, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC and adjunct professor at XAUAT, Zhou Yuanqing, Chairman of XAUAT Board of Trustees, president of the National Academy of Higher Education, and former Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education, Gui Zhongyue, Chairman of XAUAT Board of Trustees, former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress in Shaanxi Province, and proxy of Shaanxi Institute of Socialism, Guan Jie, the Honorary Deputy Chairman of XAUAT, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Hu Wenrui, director of XAUAT Board of Trustees (by special invitation), president of the National Association of the Petroleum Enterprises ， and Vice President of Sino-petroleum Group.

Liu Xuanmin, secretary of the party committee in the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, Cui Baolu, a specialy-invited director of XAUAT Board of Trustees, and president of the Chinese Society of Metallurgical Education, Wang Weimin, General Manager of Metallurgical Technology and Industry of China Group co., Mao Wu, chief economist of Shougang Group co., Vice General Manager of Jiuquan Group of Iron and Steel, and Xu Delong, president of XAUAT, to name just a few of representatives of the directing units or alumni associations.

Liu Xuanmin, secretary of the party committee in the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese (FROC), read out the FROC document that ratifies the corporate membership of the XAUAT Alumni Association. Xu Delong, the executive chairman of XAUAT Board of Trustees and president of XAUAT delivered a report entitled “Advancement to Eminence, with Passion and Perseverance”, which, with a retrospect and prospective XAUAT Board of Trustees, addressed such key issues as the medium-and-long-term strategic development of XAUAT and the construction plot of the new campus and invited the delegates to further discuss these issues. The representatives of the Board of Govenors and alumni association approved the plan for the medium-and-long-term strategic development of XAUAT and the construction plans of the new campus by voting.
