& the Celebrating Ceremony of the 115th Anniversary of the Establishment and the 55th Anniversary of the Convergence of XAUAT
To commemorate the 115th anniversary of the establishment and the 55th anniversary of the convergence of Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT in short), a grand celebrating ceremony was held on Sept. 24th, 2011, in the Recreation & Sport Center in XAUAT; and meanwhile, the 4th Plenary Session of the 2nd Committee of Board Members and Alumni, XAUAT, was convened. The provincial leadership present and speaking at the ceremony were Mr. Wang Xia, the deputy secretary of Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the CPC, Madam Zhu Jingzhi, vice governor of Shaanxi Province.

The ceremony receives congratulatory letters from Mr. Xu Kuangdi, vice-chairman of the 10th CPPCC, Mr. Zhao Leji, the Secretary of Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the CPC & Zhao Zhengyong, governor of Shaanxi province, and from such institutes as the Chinese Association of Higher Education, and the Chinese Association of Metallurgical Education.
Mr. Xu Kuangdi highly recognizes the important role XAUAT plays in West China, and the prominent achievements made by XAUAT in the past 55 years in cultivating talents, doing scientific research, serving the society, and inheriting the cultural heritage. He wishes that XAUAT could further enhance the university characteristics, and make more contribution to China’s construction of the energy-saving and environment-friendly society.

The congratulatory letter from Mr. Zhao Leji and Mr. Zhao Zhengyong first reiterates the XAUAT motto of “Being Independent, Realistic, Inquisitive and Creative” and the XAUAT workstyle of “Integrity, Solidity, Reliability and Conscientiousness”, and then acknowledges the noteworthy contribution XAUAT has made to the scientific research, to the elevation of education quality, and to the economic development of the province and the nation. He encourages XAUAT to play a more significant role in the scientific development and economic prosperity of Shaanxi province.

The ceremony is presided by Mr. Gao Mingzhang, secretary of the Party Committee in XAUAT, and Professor Xu Delong, President of XAUAT, and academician of CAE, makes a speech entitled “Advancing the Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation, and Exploring on the Path of Developing Higher Education with Chinese Characteristics“.
After a review of the history of XAUAT, Professor Xu Delong points out that the university was founded to save the nation from extinction, and was developed together with the nation—particularly noteworthy are its devotion to the metallurgical science from the 1950’s, and its commitment to the development of west China from 1990’s. The unremitting efforts in the past century have earned the university a worldwide reputation. Now XAUAT has established a well-coordinated multi-disciplinary educational system which integrates literature, science, engineering, management, art and law, featured with architecture, civil engineering and the related disciplines. Having produced over 210,000 talents for the nation, and presented abundant fruits in scientific research, XAUAT has made remarkable contribution to the economic construction and the social development of China.
In the ceremony, an agreement was signed to coordinate the efforts in the future development of XAUAT by Madam Zhu Jingzhi, vice governor of Shaanxi Province, Mr. Wang Weimin, the secretary of the Party Committee & general manager of the China Metallurgical Group Corporation, and Mr. Zhu Jimin, the secretary of the Party Committee & board chairman of the Shougang Group. As is stated in the agreement, to maintain and further enhance the characteristic and advantage of the university, the above-mentioned units or government branches will vigorously support XAUAT in the aspects covering the disciplinary construction, talent training, scientific research, and the construction of its new campus; and XAUAT, when making decisions concerning the enrollment and employment policy, talent-training approaches, and the technological service, is to take into full consideration the demands of the province and the relative enterprises, and strive to make XAUAT a principle base for high-level academic exchange and talent training.

In the address made by Madam Zhu Jingzhi, vice governor of Shaanxi Province, she says that since the reform and opening-up policy, particularly since 1998, when the governing unit of the university was transferred from the former National Ministry of Metallurgy to Shaanxi province, XAUAT has renewed its effort in coordinating and developing the scale, the structure, the quality and the benefit of the university, and has provided abundant talents, sufficient intellectual and technical support to the strategic development of the related industry, the west of China and the nation as a whole. The year of 2011, marking the 115th anniversary of the establishment and the 55th anniversary of XAUAT, is also an opportunity to summarize the experience accumulated so far, and to further the reform and the advancement. She urges the university to inherit and promote its tradition and advantage, and to contribute more to the construction of Shaanxi province.
The ceremony also witnesses the sincere blessings in the speeches delivered by the representatives of the Board of Trustee and the Alumni, representatives of teachers and students.

Also reported is that the 4th Plenary Session of the 2nd Committee of Board Members and Alumni, Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology was convened on the same day before the celebrating ceremony, in the assembly room on the 2nd floor of the Building of Powder Material Engineering. The session deliberated and adopted the “Statute of XAUAT Board of Trustees” (the revised edition) and “Statute of XAUAT Alumni Association” (the draft for discussion).
