Founded in 1956, the College of Civil Engineering boasts a long-standing educational heritage. It currently offers three undergraduate programs: Civil Engineering, Urban Underground Space Engineering, and Intelligent Construction, along with two micro-major programs: Smart Transportation & Intelligent Construction, and Digital & Intelligent Geotechnical Engineering.
The college hosts a Postdoctoral Research Station, a doctoral program in the first-level discipline of Civil Engineering, and a professional doctoral program in Civil Engineering & Hydraulic Engineering, providing a full spectrum of education from undergraduate to doctoral levels.
The College is equipped with high-level teaching and research platforms, including the National Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Universities and the State Key Laboratory of Green Building in Western China ( the Structural Research Center). For over 60 years, aligned with national and regional major strategic needs, centering on the disciplinary cluster of architectural science and technology, the College has developed six distinctive and well-established research areas: high-performance materials and structures, conservation and inheritance of historic building structures, rural construction and green building in western China, structural resilience and intelligent disaster prevention, intelligent diagnosis and long-life assurance of engineering structures, as well as underground engineering safety and smart operation & maintenance. These efforts have provided strong support for the economic and social development of western China and technological progress in the civil engineering industry.
The College has more than 190 faculty and staff members,, including 50 full professors and 48 doctoral supervisors, with nearly 3,000 enrolled students. It has cultivated a large number of distinguished scholars and industry elites in civil engineering, including Lyu Xilin, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Liang Xijun, a National Model Worker..
Civil Engineering currently ranks 17th globally in the 2025 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects and 60th worldwide in the 2026 US News Best Global Universities Rankings. The college also runs a joint postgraduate training program with Adelaide University, Australia, and conducts collaborative research with 26 universities across the United States, Germany and other countries worldwide.
