School of Materials Science & Engineering

The School of Materials Science and Engineering traces its originstothe Department of Architectural Technology,established in 1956,which laterbecame the Department of Materials Science and Engineeringin 1993beforethe School was formally established in 2000.Currently, the discipline of Materials Science ranks among the top 2.3‰ globally in ESI., and the Schoolserves as a member of the Materials Teaching Steering Committeeunderthe Chinese Ministry of Education.

The School has 85 full-time faculty members, including 24 professors/senior engineers and 40 associate professors/senior engineers.Among them are10recepiants ofnational and provincial talent awards,includingthe National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, Shaanxi Provincial Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and Shaanxi Provincial Special Support Program for Leading Talents. Four faculty members have won the Baosteel Excellent Teacher Award, and the Schoolis home totwo Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Teams.

The School offers a complete talent cultivation system in Materials Science and Engineering, coveringbachelor’s,master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral education.It offersfour undergraduate programs:Materials Science and Engineering, Resource Recycling Science and Engineering, Functional Materials, and Nanomaterials and Technology.The School currently enrolls1,758students, including 612 postgraduates and 13 international students. Key research areas include resource recycling, eco-building materials, high-performance structural ceramics, and energy storage.

The School is equipped with strong research platforms, including two national engineering research centers, one MOE engineering research center, and six provincial-level research platforms. Over the past five years, it has undertaken more than 300 research projects with total fundingexceeding CNY263 million published over 800 SCI-indexedpapers. The School has also achieved major technological breakthroughs, includingthe world's first large-scale production line for high-sulfur bauxite roasting and China's first dry steel slag treatment line. Its achievements have earned numerous honors, including twoSecond-class National Science and Technology Progress Awards, twoSecond-classNational Teaching Achievement Awards, andrecognition asone ofthe"Top 10 Scientific Advances in Chinese Universities"..

The School has established friendly cooperative relationships with a number of internationally renowned universities, including Clausthal University of Technology and TU Dresden in Germany, University College London and the University of Exeter in the UK, Monash University in Australia, and Northeastern University in the United States.
