School of Resource Engineering

The School of Resources Engineering traces its origins to the Department of Mining and Metallurgy founded in 1958, which was the only department established under the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry in Northwest China specializing in metal mineral resources development. It became independent as the Department of Mining Engineering in 1960, was renamed the Department of Mineral Resources Engineering in 1986, and was restructured into the School of Resources Engineering in September 2018. In 2024, it was approved to confer doctoral degrees in Mining Engineering and professional doctorate in Resources and Environment, forming a complete education system spanning undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs..

Currently, the School offers 5 undergraduate programs: Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Safety Engineering, Resource and Environment Big Data Engineering, and Intelligent Mining Engineering. It has two first-level master's programs in Mining Engineering and Safety Science and Engineering, as well as two doctoral programs in Mining Engineering and Resources and Environment. Mining Engineering is listed as a Shaanxi Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program, and both Mining Engineering and Mineral Processing Engineering have been accredited by the China Engineering Education Accreditation Association (CEEAA). The School has 97 faculty members, including 35 professors and 27 associate professors, with 84% holding doctoral degrees. The team includes national high-level talents, Ministry of Natural Resources innovation talents, and leading talents of the "Sanqin Talent Special Support Program", with more than twenty adjunct professors from the US, Canada, Australia, Sweden and Finland.

The school hosts more than 10 provincial and ministerial-level research platforms, including the Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Green Development and Utilization of Non-ferrous Metal Resources. It has established cooperation with KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), University of Oulu (Finland) and Northern Arizona University (USA), and has built internship bases with Fortune 500 enterprises such as Baowu Group and China Minmetals. It has won more than 350 awards in provincial and higher-level innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, including the first prize in the National Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The school has 1,415 enrolled students, with an annual graduate employment rate of over 93% and employer satisfaction rate of over 96%.

Inheriting the university motto of "Self-improvement, Pragmatism, Truth-seeking and Innovation" for over 60 years, the pioneering spirit of perseverance has driven the School's continuous progress. All faculty and students are committed to developing the school into a renowned institution in mineral resources engineering, and creating a national key talent cultivation base serving the green and intelligent development of the mining industry.
