The School of Public Administration at Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology was founded in September 2018. Its establishment was a major move by the university to comprehensively deepen reforms,strengthen its internaldevelopment, proactively align with the economic developmentneedsof Northwest China, broaden its educational scope, and optimize its disciplinarystructure. Upholding the motto “Dedication, Excellence, Collaboration, and Mutual Success,” theSchool iscommittedto nurturingpublic affairs professionals rooted in Western China,equipped with a global vision, and capable of leading regional development and social progress.It strives to build itself into a highly distinctive, internationally recognized, anda nationally top-tier schoolofpublic administration .
TheSchool offers a doctoral program in the second-level discipline of Urban and Rural Public Governance, a master’sprogram in the first-level discipline of Public Administration, and a professionalmaster’sprogramof Public Administration (MPA). It is also advancing the development of the Applied Economics discipline. Fouracademic fieldshave taken shape: Administrative Management, Public Policy, Urban and Rural Public Governance, and Cultural Policy and Management. The school currently runs four undergraduate programs: Cultural Industry Management, Public Affairs Management, Urban Management, and Digital Economy.TheCultural Industry Managementmajorhas been selected for the first batch of the "National First-class Undergraduate Program" development initiative.and was rated A in the 2025 ShanghaiRanking’s Chinese University Majors Ranking.
The school has more than 70 full-time faculty members, including five Level 3professors. Among the faculty, members have been selected into national high-level talent programs, honored as “Leading Talents in Philosophy, Social Sciences, Culture and Arts of Shaanxi Province,” and chosen for the “Sanqin Talents” Youth Program, among others. The school has over 1,500 enrolled students, who have won more than 200 national awards in various innovation and entrepreneurship competitions. MPA students have won 5 third prizes and 10 excellence awards inNationalCaseCompetitions, as well as 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, and 5 third prizes for research reportsevaluations.
In recent years, faculty members have led over 50 national-level projects, including major projects of the National Social Science Fund, projects of the National Key R&D Program, and projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, with cumulative research funding exceeding 60 million yuan. They have published more than 800 papers in prestigious domestic and international journals such asChinese Public Administration,Journal of Public Management,CASS Journal of Political Science,Cities, andSustainable Cities and Society, and have authored over 30 monographs. They have received more than 10 provincial- and ministerial-level scientific research awards. They have provided over 50 policy recommendations and research reports to government departments. Several research outputs on archaeological site parks have been adopted and applied by the National Cultural Heritage Administration. They have led the formulation of more than 20 plans related to Shaanxi Province’s 13th and 14th Five-Year Plans, and theirpublicservice projects cover over 10 cities and prefectures in western China, making significant contributions to national and local socioeconomic development.
