Modern Educational Technology Center

The Modern Educational Technology Center (METC) is a directly-affiliated organization of Xi'an University of Architecture & Technology (XAUAT). It includes a Network Information Center (NIC) and an Educational Technology Center (ETC). METC has a technical staff of 16, of which 4 hold a senior technical title, another 4 hold intermediate technical title s and 8 hold other technical titles.

The total working area of NIC exceeds 3000 Square meters, including one distance video conference center, two multimedia training classrooms, one network computer room with more than 240 computers, one network technology laboratory, one educational network with live-broadcasting, one post-editing studio, and one research and a design studio designated to the digital museum of architecture. The responsibilities of the NIC include:

- Management, and upgrading of the campus backbone network.

- Operation and maintenance of campus network devices.

- Providing transparent IP, mail and Domain System services to campus network users.

- Management and maintenance of the university website information system.

- Construction and management of the Chinese and English version website of XAUAT.

- Registration of the campus website Domain Name and supervision of website content.

- Construction and management of excellent online courses and online resources.

The CERNET (China Education and Research Network) access was deployed in 1996. It now has a 100Mb bandwidth Optical Fiber connection to CERNET, 500 Mb Optical Fiber connections to China Telecom, 500Mb to China Network Communications Corporation (CNC), 1000Mb (IPv6) to China Education and Research Network 2(CERNET2), and the total network bandwidth is 2.1 Gigabytes. Most of the university offices and buildings, students' dormitories and all the faculty's living area buildings are connected by the 1000M Optical Fiber network connection, with network access points totaling about 36,000, which provides a high-speed, reliable, stable and safe network platform to the 20,000 teachers and students of XAUAT.

The NIC undertakes the work of website management of the different levels of websites, such as the university portals sites written in both Chinese and English, the interior website of XAUAT, university news, online resources, education, scientific research, student recruitment and the students' recruitment and employment service website, etc. Moreover, the NIC has established a large number of high quality multi-media teaching resources based on the campus network and supported by the educational reforming project of XAUAT. It has constructed, maintained and released a number of important digital teaching resources, which include excelsior courses at national, provincial and university level, as well as the website of university digital architecture museum and museum of architecture.

ETC is responsible for the operation, maintenance and management of multi-media devices in 80 multi-media classrooms whilst providing educational services and technical support for university education, scientific research, and other associated academic activities.
